With all the hype around the launch of Bing, it seems that Microsoft have taken their eye off the ball when it comes to maintaining their other properties. This morning, MSN’s webmaster blog is suffering, as this screenshot, taken at 09:50am, Tuesday 30th June 2009 shows…

It seems that the blog relies on third party image host, PhotoBucket to display the background image on the page. Clearly, something’s gone wrong, and the image is no longer displaying properly.
In itself, this isn’t a major issue, but it does raise concerns that if the services and platforms which we rely upon can be so easily destabilised and the small details overlooked, maybe we aught to be more concerned about just how much faith we put in these big name providers.
Update:
It seems that we caught the website in the middle of a transition to the new Bing webmaster community portal. The site is gradually redirecting visitors to the new pages, but this doesn’t seem to have been implemented very cleanly, as the image above clearly shows. Shouldn’t they have precautions in place to minimise the impact of rollouts like this?

Hi Jonathan,
Good post! Did you catch the typo on Bing Community? I wrote a post on it a few days ago, you might get a kick out of it

Hi Matt, good spot – it amazes me how little attention the big players seem to pay to the small details. Thanks for posting!
